- Made for darker skin: no white cast, and no fragrance on the list we checked.

- Oily, acne-prone skin with blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid 2% helps unclog pores.
- Be careful
- Contains fragrance and dyes, and can dry or sting. On darker skin, irritation can leave dark marks, so start once a day. Not for young children. A fragrance-free version exists.

Dove Original Beauty Cream Bar (90g)

- A gentler cleansing bar than ordinary soap, for the body and face.
- Be careful
- Contains fragrance. In 2024 NAFDAC warned about one German-made batch of this 100g bar, recalled in the EU for BMHCA (a banned fragrance ingredient), and in 2025 about a Dove exfoliating hand soap and some Dove deodorants for the same reason. The current UK list does not include BMHCA. Check the ingredient list and NAFDAC number on your pack.

Serums for dark marks and spots
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Key ingredients: Niacinamide 10%, Zinc PCA 1%
- Suits
- Oily skin, dark marks and uneven tone. Niacinamide has modest evidence for fading marks over 8 to 12 weeks.
- Be careful
- 10% can irritate some people: start every other night. It can pill under some creams.

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
Key ingredients: Azelaic acid 10%
- Suits
- Dark marks after spots, mild acne and redness. Azelaic acid is one of the gentler options for darker skin, and is often considered suitable in pregnancy, but check with your doctor or midwife first.
- Be careful
- Tingling or itching is common in the first weeks. This is 10%; prescription creams are stronger (15 to 20%).
