About
About this library
Melanin & Me is an education project for skin, hair, nails, body care and makeup on darker skin, starting in Nigeria.
Who is behind it
The library is physician-led by Dr Kingsley Lasing. Articles draw on public guidance from organisations such as the NHS, NICE, the American Academy of Dermatology, DermNet and the WHO, and every article lists its sources.
Clinical review status
Clinical review is in progress. None of the 111 articles has completed doctor review yet, so every article shows “Doctor review pending”. An article shows a reviewer name and review date only after a named doctor has signed it off.
Education, not diagnosis
Nothing here is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Skin conditions can look alike, especially on darker skin, and some need a doctor to examine you or run tests. If something worries you, see a doctor or pharmacist. In an emergency in Nigeria, call 112.
About the images
The 111 illustrations at the top of articles are AI-generated images. They are there to make the library pleasant to read; they are not photos of real patients and must not be used to recognise a condition. Each one is labelled “AI-generated illustration”.
Clinical photos are not shown on the website for now while their licences and suitability are checked by a person.
Keeping content current
The website is built from the same content as the Melanin & Me app. Content was last updated 12 October 2026.
