Choosing it for deep skin
- Orange or red cancels blue-grey under-eye darkness and dark marks on deep skin.
- Peach suits lighter-medium skin. Green (for redness) is rarely useful on deep skin.
- Choose a creamy, thin formula. Thick, waxy correctors crease.
- Avoid shimmery correctors if you will be photographed with flash.
How to apply
- Use it only on the darkest areaTap a tiny amount where the darkness is deepest.
- Sheer it outBlend with a warm fingertip until thin. Too much orange shows through.
- Wait 30 secondsLet it settle before the next layer.
- Cover with concealerTap concealer in your own shade over it.
- Set lightlyPress a little tinted powder on top.
How long to wear it
- It lasts as long as the concealer over it.
- If orange shows through by afternoon, use less next time.
- Remove it every night with your makeup.
Don’t use it if
- During a stye, eye infection or eyelid eczema, if using it near the eyes.
- On broken or irritated skin.
- Any "corrector" that promises to lighten or bleach skin.
- If it stings, itches or causes a rash.
Safety and the evidence
Never use a "lightening", "whitening" or "toning" product as makeup. NAFDAC caps hydroquinone at 2% in cosmetics and bans mercury.
Evidence C — case reports; regulation · Voice of Nigeria 2025 — NAFDAC hydroquinone limit
Some red and orange correctors contain carmine (CI 75470), which can cause an allergic rash.
Evidence C — case reports · Case report — carmine allergy from blush
Fragrance (parfum, aroma) and botanical extracts are the commonest cosmetic allergens; choose fragrance-free if your skin reacts easily.
Evidence B/C — patch-test series
Evidence grades: A systematic reviews or several trials; B at least one trial or consistent controlled studies; C observational studies, surveys or case reports; D expert opinion.
Keep it clean
- Keep it out of heat and sun: not in a parked car, on a sunny dressing table or in a handbag left outside. Heat spoils makeup before its date.
- Use clean fingers or a clean brush; do not dip used fingers back into a pot.
- Throw it away if used near the eyes during an eye infection.
Important
See a doctor if
- See a doctor about under-eye darkness that is new, one-sided or comes with swelling.
- See a doctor if dark marks keep spreading even with daily sunscreen.
- See a doctor or pharmacist for a rash that does not settle after stopping.
Emergency in Nigeria: call 112 or go to the nearest hospital.
